Password on the quiz
by Marcus Green - Sunday, 6 May 2007, 01:24 AM

I have set a password on one of the summary quizzes. All you have to do to get the password is come up with a good suggestion/comment/correction on any of my questions or text and I'll send you the key to the quiz. Just my way of encouraging a little (grins).

Post suggestions in this forum.

by Rancy Chadha - Tuesday, 8 May 2007, 06:24 AM

Hi Marcus,

I want to point out a very small error in section 8.1, for this statement:

The general syntax for the useBean tag is as follows.
<jsp:useBean id="myBean" type=”classtype” class="com.mydomain.ClassName" scope="session" />
The it attribute is mandatory . It should be
The id attribute is mandatory .

-Thanks,

Error in section 1.2 and 1.3
by Rancy Chadha - Tuesday, 8 May 2007, 09:04 AM

Hi Marcus,

There are couple of corrections to be done here:

1)Section 1.2

1) statement: "Remember that HTTPServletRequest was one"

SHOULD BE  "Remember that HttpServletRequest was one"

2) statement: "If you consider this some type of trivial shopping cart the following methods can be used to extract the parameters from the request.
GetParameter(“username”) "

Here there is a small error in method name - It should be getParameter("username")

2)Section 1.3

Statement: The signature of the method is as follows.
Printwriter getWriter() throws java.IOException

It should be: PrintWriter getWriter() throws java.io.IOException

Thanks,

-Rancy

Hi Marcus,

Just a small suggestion, pls put more questions on design patterns. As this topic needs the understanding of different requirements and scenarios and than selection of proper design pattern.

Thanks & Regards,

Shailesh

Excellent suggestion, I have been writing a little about design patterns in the offline version of the text. I'll see what I can do and will post here when I have something more to add. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi Marcus,
In the EL quiz. for 7'th question options a and c are having same values.

<function>
<function-name>myfunction</function-name>
<function-class>com.examulator.Multiplier</function-class>
<function-signature>int TimesTwo(int)</function-signature>
</function>

and a small suggestion, It would be delightful if there would have been more question on tag libraries.

Thanks & Regards,
Swathi

I have three corrections regarding SCWCD Summary Quiz 2.

1. On Qn 40, Options b,c,d are correct whereas the green background is available only for options b & d.

2. On Qn 47 you can see for yourself that only Radio button is provided which compels you to select only one option.

Which of the following statements are true?

a)
The expression language (EL) can be deactivated through the <el-ignored> tag used in the deployment descriptor.

b)
The expression language (EL) can be deactivated through the <%@ page isELIgnored="true"%>  tag within a JSP page

c)
The expression language (EL) can be deactivated in the deployment descriptor  but not in an individual JSP page

d)
The  scripting language (scriptlets) can be disabled using the  <scripting-invalid> tag in the deployment descriptor (WEB-XML).

e)
If the scripting language is disabled in the deployment descriptor any scriptlets will be passed through to the output page as plain text

Choose one answer.
a. a
b. b
c. c
d. d
e. e
Partially correct
Marks for this submission: 0/1.This submission attracted a penalty of 0.1.
3. On Qn 44 you have mentioned that JSP document MUST begin with root tag, which is NOT correct. As per JSP specs.

JSP.6.3.2 The jsp:root Element

The

jsp:root element can only appear as the root element in a JSP document orjsp:root element as its root element.

Hi Marcus,

For Question number 7 in the Structure and Deployment of webapp quiz,

 Which of the following statements is true?

a) A war file is an xml configuration file

b) a war file must contain a directory called META-INF

c) a war file can contain servlets but not jsp pages

d) a war file can contain servlets, jsp and other resources

e) The top directory of a war file is the document root of the application

The answers are given as d and e. However, according the HFSJ book, a war file must contain a directory called META-INF (Final mock test, question number 49).

thanks,

OK chaps, I think I have just got to the end of the JavaRanch feedback and I'm going to go through the feedback here. I'll also be sending the key to everyone who wants it. Sorry if it looks like I have been unresponsive but it takes quite a while to go through all the items and I am very, very pleased with the response. Its 11.15 at night and I had better get some sleep so I am fresh for my day job. Thanks again everyone.

Hi Marcus,

I believe there is a spelling mistake in question #2 of the Security Quiz.

Which of the following statements are true?
Choose at least one answer.
a. The term authentication means to decide what resources a user can have access to
b. The term authorisation means to confirm that a user is who or what they say they are
c. The terms authorization and authentication have the same meaning
d. The term authorisation means to decide what resources a user can have access to

For option b and d, it should be authorization and not authorisation.

Thank you for the quizzes they are really helping to understand the topics, and to point out my weaknesses.

I would really appreciate it if you can send me the quiz password.

Regards,

Eman Rizk (ema_rizk@yahoo.ca)

<taglib>

        <tlibversion>1.0</tlibversion>

Hi Marcus,

There is a bug in section 3.4 :

ServletContextAttributeListener

ServletRequestAttributeListener

HttpSessionAttributeListener

Each of these interfaces has the following methods.

  • attributeRemoved(ServletContextAttributeEvent se)
  • attributeAdded(ServletContextAttributeEvent se)
  • attributeReplaced(ServletContextAttributeEvent se)
In fact this statement is a little bit misleading, because the event objects are different for each listener.

Best regards,
Mariusz

Hey Marcus,

Thanks for this simulator. It has been of tremendous help to me. Please do send me the password for the summary quizzes - ajay_geee@yahoo.co.in.

Here is one mistake (I think). I came across it in "JSP standard actions quiz" Q-2:
Which of the following are correct syntax for the use Bean tag?
a)
<jsp:useBean type=classtype class="com.mydomain.CName" />
b)
<jsp:useBean id="mb" type=classtype class="com.mydomain.CName" />
c)
<jsp:useBean id="mb" class="com.mydomain.CName" />
d)
<jsp:useBean id="mb" type=classtype />
Answers listed are b and c. I believe b isnt correct because attributes are expected to be quoted.

More issues to be listed as I come across.

Regards,
Ajay
