This 200 page book is a concise guide to passing the Sun Certified Java Programmers Exam for Java 5 (JDK 1.5). Marcus Green the author, has been writing about the Sun Certified Java programmers exam since 1998 and is the co-author of two previous books on this subject. The book is aimed narrowly and exclusively at the objectives of the exam. It gives detailed examples of the type of topic coverage likely to come up on the real exam. It gives comparisons with other languages and warnings of "false friends" where knowledge of other programming language may mislead you. It covers the new topics introduced with the Java 5 exam such as generics, var args, autoboxing and regular expressions.
The book is solid text with almost no illustrations and includes highlighted key points illustrating important areas to study. As you can see from the layout of this page, Marcus doesn't do design, he does content.
Marcus is the author of hundreds of mock exam questions for the SCJP exam and feedback from people who have taken the real exam indicate results very close to those achieved on his exams. Typically this is plus or minus 3%. You can see a full table of contents in pdf format at http://www.examulator.com/tamer/content.pdf
